Choose Happiness

photograph by me (Sandra)

A few days before his passing this week Jack Layton wrote,
"My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world."

Thank you for inspiring us all to be better.

New Photo Prints

I added two new 8x8 prints to the shop. They have a very soft vintage feel due to shooting with my Diana lens attachment. Let me know what you think?

Week-end DIY

September is just around the corner. Nights are getting fresher. Fall is my favorite season. It's the cooler air, the color change in the leaves. It's also the cozy feel of a warm sweater. Fall is when I start thinking about knitting projects too. But there are so many other cool things to make with yarn. A few quick and simple projects caught my attention online. If I get the time, I will be trying one or two of these.

It's The Simple Things ...

The best things in life are free, or almost free. My oldest had been asking  to make homemade lemonade with me. Who knew such a simple activity could take away the worries of the day. My baby girl and my toothless (he recently lost his two front teeth) 7 year old helped squeeze, stir and taste test. A good time was had by all, including me. I was totally in the moment. No to do lists on the brain, contented by a simple relatively mundane activity.

Kids Corner: Toys

There is something wonderful and timeless about wooden toys and items for children. They are usually built to last, and can be passed on and on. That starter sewing kit is such a good idea for little girls! My favorite is the owl hanging art display. I would love it for my kids' rooms.

Photo Talk: Food Photography

If you like to cook and bake like I do, chances are you also like food photography. The two go hand in hand. Going grocery shopping becomes a different experience when you are looking for food that photographs well.

My mother brought over a few figs for us to try this past week-end. I have never been a big fan of figs. But I immediately thought to myself upon looking at them, "Look at that great color, and I bet they would look even better sliced open. I need to photograph these figs." Yeah, I know... probably weird to some. So here are the lovely figs.

And on that note, The talented Helene Dujardin from the blog Tartelette has written a new food photography book which looks absolutely fabulous! I will be buying a copy for sure. You can have a peek inside the book at Amazon and Ez from Creature Comforts has written a review of the book here.

Cherry On A Spoon fine art print

I just added the still life below to my etsy shop. I love food photography and styling. I'm very inspired by the clean and fresh modern take on food photography that I have been seeing of late. Let me know what you think.

Flickr Inspiration: Summer Time

Summer comes and goes so quickly. I must admit summer is not my favorite season, because here it gets so dreadfully humid and I can't tolerate high heat and humidity. But when we have those perfect summer days, low humidity, not too hot, and with a lovely breeze in the air. Then, life is very good.
Here are a few of my favorite summer picks from flickr.
